You Cannot be Replaced, Grief Massage Therapist

In many of the Grief Massage trainings I’ve taught, I’ve read the following Viktor Frankl quote at the end of class as a send-off of sorts:

“Everyone has his (her) own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein s/he cannot be replaced not can his/her life be repeated. Thus, everyone’s task is unique as is her his/her specific opportunity to implement it.”

To me, this phrase says, simply, YOU MATTER.

Your Calling Matters

I believe it is so vital for healing professionals, especially in the field of grief and massage therapy, to recognize that their work - their contribution- is pricelessly valuable.

If you are feeling called to serve grieving people through massage therapy then it is likely that this is part of your specific vocation or mission for your life.

And, it’s likely that there are grieving humans you will reach, lives you will impact, in ways that are uniquely your own.

You cannot be replaced. There is work that only you can do - you are a very valuable and specific puzzle piece in this world of grief and healing.

You May Not See the Big Picture Yet…That’s OK

You may not know how, you may not know when…but it’s likely that you know there is something you are called to do.

And, I encourage you to trust that.

Take just the next tiniest step forward on the path.

Trust that there is a purpose for your work and for your life.

And maybe even start cultivating some curiosity about what that purpose might look like.

You might ask yourself what you would regret NOT doing in this lifetime.

You might reflect on what gifts or talents you want to share during your time on this earth.

And, you might even take some time to think about your “Why” (what motivates you or drives your passion for working with grief).

Feel free to email me at aimeertaylor@griefmassage.org to share your experiences with reflecting on your unique purpose.
